Trail Insights:

While Greenwater and Echo Lakes Trail offers a peaceful and rewarding hike, it can be popular, especially during weekends. Starting early will give you the chance to experience the trail before it gets crowded. The trail’s elevation gain is manageable but becomes a bit steeper as you approach Echo Lake. Even if you decide to turn around before reaching Echo Lake, the first Greenwater Lake offers stunning views and a tranquil spot to relax.

@>LuBlair recently shared a trip report on wta.org saying, “The creeks are raging with spring runoff and the lakes are fuller than I’ve ever seen them. A few spots on the trail got very wet, but not hard to navigate. Trail is in great shape.”

The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, making it accessible to a wide range of hikers. Be prepared for muddy sections, especially during the spring, but with careful navigation, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking river views, lush forests, and stunning alpine lakes.

Tips for Your Adventure:

  • Waterproof shoes are a must—spring means muddy trails!
  • Facilities: An outhouse is available at the trailhead.
  • Pack a snack to enjoy lakeside.
  • The trail is dog-friendly (on leash).
  • A Northwest Forest Pass required for parking.
